Balance The Blade Mac OS

This article lists general limitations for Check Point Endpoint Security Client for macOS.
These limitations are in addition to those listed in the corresponding Known Limitations articles for each release.

From the Finder, choose Go Utilities. Open the Audio MIDI Setup application. Click the Add (+) button on the bottom-left corner in the Audio Devices window and chose Create Aggregate Device. A new Aggregate Device appears in the list on the left side of the window. Full Disk Encryption (FDE) Blade (From E80.71 LA, FDE Blade is replaced by FileVault blade) Password change in FDE pre-boot is not synched to macOS: Smart Card login in FDE pre-boot is not supported: OneCheck is not supported: FileVault Blade: Only system volume is encrypted. Institutional Recovery Key can only be imported once.

The following features are not supported on Check Point Endpoint Security Client for macOS:

General Limitations
Push Operations are ignored for macOS client
Centralized Client Deployment from Software Deployment Policy is not supported

Endpoint Client User Interface Localization is not supported

The following configurations in Common Client Settings Policy are not supported:
  • Client user interface settings: configurations such as custom preboot and One Check images and appearance of tray icon.
  • Allowing users to disable network protection on their computers.
  • Installation and upgrade settings
  • Uninstall Password
Telemetry data not generated
In order to use SideCar and Airdrop features, starting E83.20 for macOS client, you need to allow IPv6 traffic in the Endpoint Firewall policy. See sk171972
Only English is supported as the interface's language.
The Big Sur macOS may ask users to grant access to security modules after some special activities. In such cases, follow OS directives. To avoid this, we recommend MDM management tools to predefine the desired configurations.
The Big Sur macOS version does not display correctly in SmartEndpoint reports.
If nodeJS is installed on the Mac, build directories should be excluded in SBA policy (AR/EFR and TE) to improve performance.
Forensics
The Forensics report does not show Network events.
Compliance Blade
Remediation actions are not triggered on macOS
Environment variables in path of checked files are not supported
Compliance blade on macOS currently supports checks for the following Anti-Virus vendors:
  • Kaspersky
  • Check Point
  • Sophos
  • McAfee
  • Symantec
  • TrendMicro
  • Norton
The following compliance checks are not supported:
  • Latest service packs installed
  • running secure screen saver
If the default name of the compliance rule for checking if assigned blades are running is changed, i.e. cloned or edited, this rule will not be applied to the macOS Compliance blade. Then, on the server side there will be no compliance reporting (inform, warn, restrict). Client will also not go into the assumed compliance state.
VPN Blade
SCV Compliance check ('Use Compliance Blade' state should be defined in order to enforce client compliance prior to VPN connection)
[Not relevant for Big Sur and up] In some rare cases during the upgrade of VPN client from previous version, user may experience temporary inability to connect to VPN site. Delay may be from seconds to several minutes. To address this issue user should perform reboot of operating system.
A certificate for user authentication should be stored in the keychain when you use Secondary Connect.
Remote Access VPN clients do not support the use of a personal certificate as an authentication method if the saved certificate is on SmartCard. This is relevant for macOS 11 Big Sur.

Firewall Blade
Disable Wireless On Lan feature is not supported
Application Control is not supported
Individual IPv6 addresses cannot be blocked. One can set 'IPv6 block all' for all IPv6 addresses.

(From E80.71 LA, FDE Blade is replaced by FileVault blade)
Password change in FDE pre-boot is not synched to macOS
Smart Card login in FDE pre-boot is not supported
OneCheck is not supported
FileVault Blade
Only system volume is encrypted.
Institutional Recovery Key can only be imported once.
Audit logs are not generated.
Assigning FileVault users using SmartEndpoint is not supported.
User Acquisition setting 'Continue to acquire users after pre-boot has been enforced.” is not supported.
User Acquisition setting “Pre-boot enforcement will begin after at least one user has been acquired after X days” is not supported.
Media Encryption Blade
Offline Mode Remote Help (MEPP / macOS Offline Access Tool does not support Remote Help)
Custom Encryption is not supported (Media Encryption does not support configuration of which file(s) should be encrypted)
Port Protection is not supported on macOS
CD/DVDs and storage devices connected to ports other than USB, are not supported
External Media that are mounted as virtual devices (Core Storage or APFS (Apple File System )) are not supported.
Time Machine using external media is not supported.
Media formatted as NTFS is not supported.
Media Encryption blade: Media scan - not supported.
Anti-Malware Blade
Anti-Malware Blade is not supported on macOS client. Resolved in sk165573 - Enterprise Endpoint Security E82.50 macOS Clients
Contextual scan - not supported (Finder does not have option for scan). Resolved in sk166955 - Enterprise Endpoint Security E83.200 macOS Clients
EPS-26010: Enable Web protection - not supported (always off)
EPS-26011: Scan Mail messages - not supported (always off)
EPS-26012: Signature source settings - not supported (only External Check Point Signature server setting is supported)

Push operations:

Backup configurations for the file types in the Anti-Ransomware policy are not enforced.
Backup configurations for the file size in Anti-Ransomware policy are not enforced.
URL Filtering Blade
URL Filtering is supported using Agent Chrome Browser Extension for SandBlast Agent Web Management users.

Installation

In macOS 10.13 and later, the gatekeeper requests consent from the end user before allowing to load a third party kernel extension for the first time.
It is possible to avoid this by preparing the installation of Endpoint Security on each machine by deploying a Device Management Kernel Extension Policy Payload containing the Check Point team identifier.

In macOS 10.13 and later, the gatekeeper warns when installing quarantined software: 'Endpoint Security installer can't be opened because the identity of the developer cannot be confirmed. Your security preferences allow installation of only apps from the App Store and identified developers.”
The macOS gatekeeper may quarantine third party software for multiple reasons, but it is possible to avoid this by either (1) Right-clicking the EPS installer in Finder and selecting 'Open'. (2) Removing the com.apple.quarantine attribute before opening the EPS installer.

In macOS 10.15 and later, the gatekeeper blocks the very first launch of third party executables that require access to user's files and folders.
The end user needs to open the macOS System Preferences Privacy-Full Disk Access dialog and accept each executable. Right after completing installation, Endpoint Security guides the end user to complete this process.

In macOS 10.15.4 and later, the gatekeeper regularly informs the end user about running 'legacy third party kernel extensions'.

Related solutions:

Correct placement of the tip of the MacIntosh , or MAC, blade is critical to successful intubation. When learning to intubate, novice intubators often prefer the MAC blade because:

  • curved shape makes it easier to insert under the upper teeth,
  • wide area makes it easier to balance the head on the blade during the lift,
  • easier to control the tongue with the side flange.

However, if you don’t have the tip of the blade positioned properly in the vallecula, you wil not lift the epiglottis and you will have a poorly view of the larynx. Why is this?

A quick review of the anatomy is warranted. The vallecula is the mucosa covered dip between the back of the tongue and the epiglottis. The hyoepiglottic ligament runs under the vallecular mucosa and connects the hyoid bone to the back of the epiglottis.

The curved MAC blade is designed to match the curve of the tongue and to put point pressure on the hyoepiglottic ligament. With pressure in the vallecula on this ligament, the epiglottis is pulled upward. The curved blade can then pull the tongue and soft tissue under the tongue forward, bringing the glottis into view.

The tip of the curved blade presses on the vallecula, allowing you to lift the epiglottis by pulling on the folds at its base. The glottis is revealed with the epiglottis hanging above it.

In this video, posted on YouTube by AIMEairway.ca, you can see that if you lift too early, when the blade is not placed far enough into the vallecula to engage the ligament, then pressure from the blade tip does not lift the epiglottis. Advancing a little farther, placing the tip in the vallecula does lift the epiglottis.

If you advance the blade tip too far into the vallecula, it will press on the base of the vallecula and force the epiglottis down, obscuring your view of the glottis. The difference between lifting too early or too late (by placing the blade tip too shallow and too deep respectively) can be just a mm or two.

MAC blades come in different sizes to match your patient. However, you must choose the correct size to apply th­­­e correct point pressure on the hyoepiglottic ligament. The correct size blade must be long enough to reach into the vallecula. You can estimate the correct size by holding the blade adjacent to the patient’s lower jaw and measuring it against the projected location of the vallecula.

Laryngoscope blades come in different sizes and you should choose the optimal size if you can.

Blade Too Short

If the blade is so short that it doesn’t reach the vallecula, then lifting the blade will not lift the epiglottis (see video above). Indeed may fold it downward over the glottis.

Blade Too Long

On the other hand, you can use a longer MAC blade. The key to success with a longer blade is to avoid inserting the blade too deep, and covering the larynx. You must restrain yourself and insert only to a depth sufficient to place the blade tip in the vallecula. You will know if you have placed the blade too deep because the larynx will be hidden under the blade.

If you insert your blade too deep you will hide the larynx underneath, as on the left. This action also tents the esophagus and can made it mimic the glottic opening if you are not careful.

When using a longer blade in a small patient, you will find that you will have a fair amount of blade outside the mouth. In this case you must be especially careful to avoid lips and teeth.

Altering the Angle Of The MAC Blade To Optimize View

As you can imagine from the above anatomical relationships, a very small change in angle at the handle will markedly alter the angle, location and point pressure of the tip. Any angulation of the blade must be done carefully to avoid damaging the teeth.

Insertion: Always Protect Those Lips and Teeth

Insertion of the blade should always be delicate and deliberate With the mouth open as wide as you can, insert the blade slightly to the right of the tongue. Don’t hit the teeth as you insert. If necessary, you can tilt the top of the handle slightly to insert the blade into the mouth, then rotate the blade back, scooping it around the right side of the tongue as you do so.

Avoid catching the lips between the blade and the teeth. I use my right index finger to sweep the lips out of the way of the blade as I insert it. You may need to angle a curved blade slightly to pass the teeth and then return the blade to a more neutral position once it has entered the mouth.

How To Know You’re In The Vallecula

With experience, you will develop good instincts on how deep to insert the blade. Always look for the tip of the epiglottis as you insert the blade. Once you see it, continue to advance the blade — usually close to its maximum depth if it’s the correct size. Simultaneously sweep the tongue to the left as you advance. Once you see the full epiglottis you can now start to transfer the weight of the patient’s head onto the blade as you lift. Again, watch for the lips. Leave your blade toward the left side of the mouth with the tongue pushed out of the way. Continue to advance until

As you lift, the pressure from the tip should lift the epiglottis. If it doesn’t, carefully slide the tip a little deeper into the vallecula to engage the ligament and try again.
